I do go on and on about social media. I am very passionate about the subject and also a big believer in its usefulness in business. Can I get an amen?

Think social media doesn’t matter? You’re 100% wrong while missing 50% of the market. Many small and medium sized business owners look at social media with angst. Some will say it has nothing to do with their business, or they can’t benefit from marketing, or it’s too much time and effort etc. I came across this article that really hits home when it comes to numbers and social media.
You’ve been a good business owner. You’ve embraced social media marketing and have worked non-stop to build up your online presence. You post, you reply, you tweet and built the best darn Facebook page on the web. Unfortunately, Facebook hates your guts and all that work is about to become worthless.
I remember talking to a business owner not more than 2 years ago and he was adamant on the fact that ‘this whole Facebook thing will be gone in 5 years’. A point of clarification, when my client said ‘Facebook thing’, he was actually referring to all of social media.
Don’t let the polite and pleasant nature fool you. Canadians are actually the most ruthless people on the earth. Ok, maybe that’s a bit harsh but when it comes to the retail world, Canadians are indeed the most ruthless consumers in the world. Recent high profile retail closures indicate that Canadians have no problem punishing brands that don’t deliver to their own expectations. They are mean aren’t they? Another good question is, does branding actually matter in Canada anymore? Or is there more to the consumer sales cycle when working with Canadians?
