There is no shortage of agencies, websites and blogs that offer up social media advice, but sometimes it helps to hear it from the mouths of the experts themselves. On Thursday, June 30th, EFactor Curaçao hosted ‘New Trends in Business – Social Media & Apps’, an evening of social media, technology and networking featuring five business professionals who gave inspiring and beneficial talks regarding the subject.
Starting at 6:30pm, social media enthusiasts, entrepreneurs and other business professionals gathered at 27 Bar at De Ruyterkade 58 in Punda. Upon arrival, attendees were warmly welcomed with a complimentary cup of coffee or tea by event partner Miko Curaçao. Guests were encouraged to upload a picture of their beverage to Facebook using the hashtags #MikoAt27Bar, #SMDay and @EFactor for a chance to win an espresso machine.
The evening started with a casual mixer where participants mingled over drinks and light snacks. Nevita Mezas who was the host of the evening, then introduced the speakers who were five in number; Daniel Corsen, Wouter Meeuwisse, Ryan Navarro, Xavier Navarro, and Yasser Casseres.
The first speaker was Daniel Corsen, Co-Founder and CEO of D&I Business Support Services, who spoke about the continuous evolution of social media and how to envision its future through storytelling. He also explained how social media and storytelling can help transform your business. Competing with larger corporations that have bigger budgets, more buying power, and deeper resources can be an ongoing challenge for small businesses. But sharing the story of who and what put your company on the map can give you a competitive advantage.
Second speaker of the night was Wouter Meeuwisse, Creative Director at Media599 and Developer of Resocializ and Stampwallet. Meeuwisse founded Media599 in 2009. Today, his company consists of a professional team of graphic- and web-designers, front-end developers, Facebook and WordPress specialists & App developers. During his presentation, Meeuwisse spoke about Resocializ, a mobile app that keeps people from grabbing their phone during social events, and Stampwallet, a digital wallet for stamp cards using QR codes, GPS, and iBeacons. He also shared shared his vision on social media and apps, and how to be successful in integrating these into the marketing mix.
The last three speakers of ‘New Trends in Business’ were Ryan Navarro (Creative Director & Project Coordinator), Xavier Navarro (Marketing Manager) and Yasser Casseres (Financial Manager) of UrbanChase, a Curaçao-branded game available for both Android and iPhone. The winners of the ‘Best in Business Award 2016’, started off with an introduction about the game that they created and launched. They then elaborated on the app creation process, and the marketing strategies used for the launch of UrbanChase. The team finished their presentation by announcing their upcoming plan; to launch other Game Apps similar to UrbanChase using different geographic locations.
After the presentations, Daniel Corsen returned to the stage to guide the Q&A session. Attendees largely seized the opportunity to ask the speakers about their expertise with social media, marketing, apps, and its potential for businesses.
After all questions were answered, The Suite Curaçao took over and helped turn the evening into a networking event where speakers and guests were able to meet, mingle and share experiences and ideas. A quick check learned that the Miko Coffee picture by Shadira Fernandez received the most likes by the end of the evening. This made Fernandez the lucky winner of the Puro4U Espresso Machine (worth ANG. 300,-), made available by Miko Curaçao BV.
