An unconventional approach to business combined with true passion for what he does is what kept Real Estate entrepreneur, America Foy going strong after experiencing a large crash in his industry. He recalls that moment because it was one of the biggest challenges he’s had to face as an entrepreneur; circumstances he didn’t anticipate after finally making the jump to doing what he really loved.

Prior to making a name for himself in the Real Estate game, America Foy had a successful career in television and production at NBC. He decided to change his journey up a bit to follow his true passion in 2003. It was a good time to enter the Real Estate industry because prices were soaring across the country and America saw much opportunity for business. When the housing bubble burst in 2008 however, the drop in prices was the most dramatic it had ever been in history. Most agents left the business. Those that didn’t had to face selling property for much less than listing price. With limited buyers and lenders terrified to give out loans, the situation was bleak.

“Sometimes doing what you love means doing it the way you can and not always the way you want to; until you innovate.”

Being passionate about the industry, there was no question America would stay to weather the storm. He says, “I understand that markets run in cycles and I knew at the time that if I could figure out how to adapt to the changes in the market, I could continue to do what I love.” In the spirit of true entrepreneurship, America got creative. He looked beyond selling residential real estate and found other opportunities to get his hands on property deals in the industry. He honed in on BPO’s (broker price opinions), sold REO and found a niche in representing foreign investors.

Having an interest in foreign investors and expanding his business globally, are the reasons America finds value in being an Rocket Hub member. Expressing that the Bay Area, being full of brilliant entrepreneurs creates a lot of competition, going global helps tap into markets that are essentially untouched. Having access to people, or connections and leads all over the world is beneficial, priceless even. Being fluent in Mandarin is one way he’s improving his global reach; Mandarin has come in handy now that he is a guide to foreign nationals from China and Russia who are investing in the EB­5 program in California.

When it comes down to the wire, America takes risks. He hasn’t always succeeded and the years after the crash weren’t his best income­ earning years, but he is proud he didn’t run away from failure. Instead he honed in on staying, got through the crash and is now one of the top­ producing agents in the San Francisco Bay Area.
